New York, New York, May 1, 2002
CREATE Architecture Planning & Design
has been awarded the commission to design the new SUNY - QEOC facility
at One Jamaica Center, Queens, New York.
The new Educational and Opportunity Center
of approximately 45,000 sf in area provides educational training
and related supportive services in New York. The goal of the center,
which will offer programs in academic and vocational preparation,
is to promote self-sufficiency to its client - students.
Currently, the Educational Opportunity Center
has a Faculty and Administrative staff of approximately 45 persons
and accommodates a maximum of 700 students per semester. Future
plans call for classes all year long from 9 AM to 6 PM and to ultimately
increase the student population.
The new facility is part of the 250,000 sf
Jamaica Center project presently under construction and development
by the Mattone Group Ltd. Of College Point, New York. The new multi-storied
mixed use development includes in addition to the SUNY - QEOC facility;
a 18-plex, 3,000 person, stadium seat theater, below-grade 500 stall, Pennsylvaniarking garage and a multitude of national retail tenants including
GAP and Old Navy and Bally's.
At a prime location in the heart of Queens,
One Jamaica Center sits prominently above the NY City Subway, and
opposite the MTA Bus HUB and the Long Island Rail Road Jamaica Station
making it convenient for shoppers and students alike.
The fast track project is presently in design
development and I scheduled for a late - fall turn over to the SUNY
school system.
